SUGGESTIONS 012: FAMILY DINNER.
1. HAVE A FAMILY SIT DOWN MEAL EVERYDAY.
2. DURING DINNER, TURN OFF ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES.
3. START EACH MEAL WITH A MOMENT OF SILENCE. END EACH MEAL WITH AN EXPRESSION OF GRATITUDE.
4. WHILE BREAKING BREAD TOGETHER, EACH MEMBER SHOULD SHARE SOMETHING NEW THEY LEARNED THAT DAY.
5. DISCUSS THE HOPES AND DREAMS OF EACH MEMBER AND SEE HOW THE FAMILY MEMBERS CAN HELP EACH OTHER.
6. DO NOT CRITICIZE ANYONE. HOWEVER, YOU CAN START YOUR CONCERN BY SAYING: DO YOU THINK IT WOULD BE BETTER TO___________________?
7. DO NOT RAISE YOUR VOICE IN ANGER. KEEP IT A CIVIL OPEN DISCUSSION.

TO MAINTAIN FAMILY UNITY AND FAMILY MENTAL HEALTH, EACH MEMBER OF THE FAMILY SHOULD BE VALUED FOR HIS/HER CONTRIBUTIONS TO THE FAMILY. EACH MEMBER SHOULD FEEL THAT HE/SHE HAS SOMETHING TO CONTRIBUTE. INSTEAD OF FOCUSING ON COMMON GOALS IN THE FAMILY, MANY ARE NOW FOCUSING ON THE ‘OBLIGATIONS’ OF EACH MEMBER. THEREFORE, MANY TRY TO ESCAPE THE FAMILY OR TEXT EACH OTHER EVEN IF THEY ARE IN THE SAME ROOM. TEXTING IS LESS PERSONAL THAN FACE TO FACE DIALOGS. EmilKoval©2012

EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE 126: ONE OF THE GREATEST CHALLENGES IN ANY RELATIONSHIP IS MAINTAINING THE BALANCE BETWEEN “ME” AND “WE”.
